A Steady Eye

Today's Verse:

...Looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. ~Jude 21b

“Keep a steady eye!” Visual fixation on a target, location, or goal requires us to keep the object in our sight. It has the idea that we will not let it out of our sight until our journey, task, or project is completed. To take our eye off of our goal could result in failure and loss. Jude tells us that in the midst of a culture that is going away from God, we must keep our sight steadfastly fixated on the Lord Jesus Christ. This morning, we see the fourth recommendation on how to live a victorious life in an apostate culture.

We must keep a steady eye on Jesus as our Advocate.

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:” (1 John 2:1). An advocate is someone who represents another person and stands and intervenes for them. The word has somewhat of a legal application. Jesus stands before the throne of God on our behalf as our Advocate with the Father! He is our Intercessor Who is alive and aggressively making intercession for us. Jesus told Peter that Satan desired to have him and sift him as wheat. Then, He told Peter, “But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not.” Keep your eye on Him because He will never fail you! Satan roars and shouts accusations that are derogatory and destructive about us to God. Jesus stands in the gap to tell Satan to go away and that his statements are not true. Jesus is there at the right moment for us.

We must keep a steady eye on Jesus Who is our Authority.

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). As our Author and Finisher of our faith, He is the Captain and Perfector of our salvation. As our Chief Prince and leader, He is our prime example on how to endure the trials, troubles, and testing’s of life. Thank the Lord that we have the examples of men like Abraham, Enoch, Noah, Moses, Joshua, and Daniel. However, Jesus is the Chief Authority for our life. Keep a steady eye on Jesus for your perseverance, patience, and pattern.

We must keep a steady eye on Jesus and His availability.

“Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:22). Looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life is a vital reminder that He is still saving men. He wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. We must keep witnessing and winning souls. We must keep a vital interest on missions and the sending forth of the gospel to foreign soil, especially in areas where the gospel is desperately needed. When we get our eyes off of witnessing for an extended period of time, we tend to become distracted from the priority of our faith. Keep a steady eye on being a fisher of men.

We must keep a steady eye on Jesus and His appearing.

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). We must not lose sight of the fact that Jesus is coming soon! Keep your eyes on the eastern sky, for your redemption draweth nigh. The angels told the disciples that this same Jesus will come again in like manner as they have seen Him go up. Jesus promised, “I will come again, and receive you unto myself.” Keep a steady eye on His soon coming!

How do we overcome a world culture that is apostate and hostile to our faith? Keep a steady eye on the mercy of our Lord Jesus unto eternal life!

Have a focused God Morning!
