And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: ~Colossians 2:10
The word complete implies everything you need has been provided. The word as used in Colossians 2:10 means fulfilled; filled to the top: so that nothing shall be wanting to full measure, fill to the brim. Another way of expressing being complete is by saying, “I am liberally supplied.” Our Lord Jesus Christ is perfectly God: “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” He satisfies every need that we have. This morning, let us praise the Lord that “Jesus Christ is all I need.”
“Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.” The believers at Colossae had been infiltrated by false teachers who told them that faith alone in Christ was not enough to sustain them. Paul tells us that the secret to a faith that is abounding, overflowing, and fruitful is by being rooted, built up, and firmly established in Christ. Our faith in Christ makes us victorious against the world. Our faith is strengthened when His Word dwells in us richly and we give ourselves to fervent time in prayer. Epaphras prayed that the believers at Colossae would stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. Make Christ the center of your faith.
“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” Some believers live with insecure hearts when it comes to the forgiveness of their sins. They punish themselves spiritually and mentally because of a wrong take on the Lord’s forgiveness. Our faith in the shed blood of Christ has given us complete forgiveness from all our sin and the assurance that we are forever saved and eternally secure. His blood securely purchased us out of the slave market of sin and reconciled us to God. Jesus is all we need for our forgiveness.
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.” We are to keep our eyes on Jesus. Our focus must be on His Lordship for our life. Our focus must be on things that are eternal and spiritual. Our focus must be on giving glory to God in everything that we do. His throne is a throne of grace and gives us place where we can come boldly for mercy and grace to help in time of need. We sometimes become anxious and worried about this life: stay focused by seeking the things which are above.
“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” For the Chrisitan, hope is an anticipated confidence in a positive outcome. Christ in us is the hope of glory. Christ in me gives me fulfillment. Paul tells us that we are complete in Him. Everything I need for my life is in Christ. The power to overcome sin, the wisdom for making right decisions, the patience to wait out a storm, the performance to do something difficult, the persuasion that God is and God can–all of this is possible because I am complete in Christ. Don’t let the devil whisper in your ear that Christ comes short: we are “complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.” Yes, Jesus Christ is all I need!
