Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. ~1 Peter 5:7
Do you ever get overwhelmed by the cares and burdens of this life? If you do, you are not alone. Burdens and cares can weigh us down to the point where everything else in life loses focus, meaning, and purpose. When our cares become too heavy, we feel like we are all alone with nowhere to go. Our devotion this morning encourages us about the necessity of placing all of our cares upon the Lord.
A care is an anxiety, worry, or concern that overwhelms us. It affects our spirit to the point where we have fears, we fret, and we become frustrated. These cares might be about our job security, the health of a loved one, the cost of sending our children to college, and paying our bills. When our cares get to the point where we are not sure what the solution will be, the cares have overcome us. We feel like we are over our head in trouble. We lose our appetite, toss and turn at night, and distance ourselves from the people most important to us. When this happens, we are in trouble.
We are encouraged to transfer all of our cares upon the Lord. To cast our cares upon the Lord means to stop carrying our cares on our shoulders and place them on his shoulders. God did not intend for us to carry our burdens, anxieties, and cares all by ourselves. So, we are exhorted to place them upon Him. We are to offload our heavy burdens upon the Lord. We are to release these cares from our back and place them upon Him.
To cast all of our cares upon the Lord is to trust God completely with every aspect of our cares. It is having faith in Him that there is “light at the end of the tunnel.” It believes that there is a good ending for us. It believes that God will make a way for us. Faith believes that God is more than able to deal with our cares. It is where we stop trying to solve our troubles with our limited wisdom and power, and trust him to solve it His way and in His time. Casting all of our cares upon Him is letting go and letting God!
He cares for us! He is concerned about our burdens and cares. As the hymn writer wrote, God will take care of you! He loves us and wants us to stop fretting, worrying, and looking for a plan B when waiting on God alone is the answer. Our heaviest cares are sent to teach us about God’s love. How His love is inseparable! How His love is immeasurable! How His love is unfathomable!
Stop living under the weight of a life filled with sorrow and cares! Cast your every burden upon His shoulders, and let Him solve your problems. Pour out your heart before Him, and allow His love to permeate and control you.
