Today’s Verse:
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. ~Luke 1:35
Back in the days before medical technology could determine the gender of the baby, expectant parents had the suspense of waiting until the baby was born. There was something very exhilarating to hear from the OBGYN or the head nurse “It’s a boy,” or, “It’s a girl.” Let us see, this morning, the excitement that filled Mary’s heart when she heard, “It’s a boy!”
We see the inspired messenger.
“And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.” This messenger was the angel Gabriel. He is God’s messenger for His special servants. God sent Gabriel to tell Mary that she would bring forth a Son Who would be called the Son of the Highest. He brought tidings from God. This made it an announcement of highest priority. He brought tidings of gladness. He also brought tidings of greatness. Truly, he came with an inspired message.
We see the incarnate Man Child.
“And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:” His message to Mary was about the incarnation of Jesus, God’s Son. Jesus is the Word Who was made flesh. He is God manifest in the flesh. Jesus is God in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself. Mary came to understand that God would enter our world through Jesus, Who became like us in flesh and blood, but Who never was absent of His deity as infinite God.
We see the incredible miracle.
Mary asked, “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?” Gabriel explained to her the miracle of the virgin birth. The virgin birth meant the birth of Jesus would not involve a human father. The Holy Spirit came upon her and the power of God overshadowed her in conceiving and bringing Jesus full-term for a maternal delivery. The birth of Christ was a miraculous birth. What seems impossible with men is possible with God! A virgin birth is not humanly possible: God made this possible! Jesus entered our world by way of a virgin birth so that He would enter our world with a sinless life. Only a Saviour Who has no sin could atone for the sins of men. Truly, Christ’s entry into our world is a miracle!
We see the enrusted ministry.
Mary was entrusted with the ministry of raising Jesus in her home and serving Him. Mary was silent but effective in her service to the Lord. Mary looked forward to her daily service to Christ. She never got over that Jesus lived in the same home as her and Joseph. She gave attention to the little things as well as the big things. She could echo that “every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.” Mary teaches us that we should see serving our Lord is a privilege.
The announcement from Gabriel to Mary was first-hand news of Jesus’ incarnate arrival. Let God speak to you through His Word and be ready always for an announcement that will change your life.
Have a life-changing God Morning!
