Today’s Verse:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ~Isaiah 9:6
Today, we celebrate Christmas around the world! We celebrate our Saviour’s entrance into this world for the main purpose of giving His life sacrificially for the sins of the world. The angel announced to shepherds watching their flock by night, “Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 that Jesus would be born of a virgin and His name would be called Immanuel, God with us. When Isaiah announced the birth of Christ, he said, “And his name shall be called….” Let us rejoice this morning in the names of Jesus and how these names encourage us.
He is Wonderful.
Words cannot explain Who Jesus is to us. One word sums up Who Jesus is: He is Wonderful! He is Wonderful in that He became like us, yet without sin. He is Wonderful in that He was God Who came in the flesh. He is Wonderful in that in His death, He tasted death for every man. He is Wonderful in that He is able to save them to the uttermost that put their faith in Him. Peter said, “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious.” This Christmas, experience how Jesus is Wonderful as He lives within you.
He is Counsellor.
A counsellor is someone respected who gives sound advice, direction, discernment, and wisdom. Jesus will never give us bad advice. Jesus never gives us counsel that will hurt us. Paul tells us to let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly in all wisdom. His Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. He is a Counsellor Who is available every day and at all times. He is a Counsellor Who watches our back and looks out for our best interest. He is a Counsellor Who has insight, hindsight, and foresight. His name “is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
He is the mighty God.
Jesus said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” He is all-powerful and undefeated. He cannot be defeated or overthrown. He is the Lord of hosts. He is almighty and unchangeable. He is mighty enough to help us overcome our temptations. He is mighty enough to forgive and cleanse us from all our sins. He is mighty enough to calm the storms in our life and take away our fears. What a mighty God we serve!
He is the everlasting Father.
Jesus and the Father are One. He is eternal and everlasting. He is infinite. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We approach the Father through the name of Jesus. His Oneness with the Father demonstrates how He and the Father are co-equal, co-eternal, and co-essential. He is merciful and faithful to us, even when we are not deserving of it.
He is the Prince of Peace.
We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. As the Prince of Peace, He gives us perfect peace when our minds are stayed on Him. He gives us great peace as we love His Word. He gives peace that passes all understanding when we pray and commit all our fears and concerns to Him. Don’t let Satan steal your peace and joy this Christmas! Let the Lord of Peace rule your heart and mind. Trust in Him completely, and let His peace rule in your heart. Rejoice in the names of our Lord and experience His greatness anew in your life.
Have a Christ-filled God Morning!
