Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. ~Proverbs 3:5-6
All banks that operate in the United States provide their depositors with federal insurance that protects their deposits up to a certain amount of money. It is a guarantee that if the bank becomes insolvent, your deposit is protected from loss. This federal insurance gives a depositor confidence in knowing that his money is safeguarded. Hence, we use the phrase “you can bank on this” to emphasize the confidence that a person can have in something or someone. This morning, we want to be encouraged in knowing that we can bank on the words of Proverbs 3:5-6.
We are greatly encouraged to place our faith in the Lord for every area of our life. Just as we placed our eternal destiny in His hands when we believed on the Lord Jesus as our Savior, we are called upon to trust God with everything in our life. Walking by faith and not by sight includes committing every detail of our life into God’s care and disposition. Trusting God with all of our heart is placing the keys in His hand and letting Him open and lock the doors.
Trusting the Lord with all of our heart requires three musts. We must not trust in ourselves. Our tendency is to look at every event from how we think we want it to turn out. We are not to let our fears or desire for gain be the drivers for how we make certain decisions. Also, we must be careful not to be wise in our own eyes. Sometimes, the process of deduction comes into play, and we wind up making a sensible decision, not necessarily a spiritual decision. Then, we must acknowledge God in all of our ways. This means we want the Lord to be glorified as we allow Him to direct our path. It is putting God first.
God promises to direct our path. This promise assures us of always having enough light to guide us. It is an absolute assurance that the end result is always best for us. It is the guarantee that we are doing His will. It is the guarantee of success! Trusting the Lord with all of our heart makes the fearful less fearful. Trusting the Lord with all of our heart makes the darkness not so dark. Trusting the Lord with all of our heart is allowing God to lead us in the paths of righteousness. No one ever winds up in the wrong place or makes a wrong decision when he trusts in the Lord with all of his heart.
Do you trust God with everything in your life? Is every detail brought before Him in prayer? Are you searching His Word to guide your steps? The best thing that we can do for our life and family is to trust in God. Let go of the things that are holding you back and allow God to lead and direct you. Then, watch how things unfold in a way that is much better than anything you can plan for. You can bank on that!
