Behind the Scenes

Today’s Verse:

David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee. ~1 Samuel 17:37

Often, an achievement or accomplishment that we see in public is really a result of things that are done behind the scenes. Behind the scenes is that which occurs in private and out of the public eye. Every accomplished musical presentation owes its success to the many hours behind the scenes in rigorous practice. In the work of God, it’s what happens behind the scenes that always determines a successful outcome and the blessing of God. Let us see from David’s life how things behind the scenes validated him to do an extraordinary task.

We see the reluctance.

“And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” David stepped up to take on the fight with Goliath. Saul took a long look at David and had reservations about him going out to fight. Saul assumed that David’s size, immaturity, and inexperience disqualified him. To Saul, David lacked the credibility to fight a man of war. We must remember that what we see on the outside is not necessarily what is real on the inside. Saul’s words were meant to discourage David from going out to battle. Don’t be discouraged from doing the task that God has trained you for in private.

We see the resolve.

David responded to Saul by telling him about his behind-the-scenes experiences. While caring for his father’s flock of sheep, a lion and a bear, on separate occasions, came out and took a sheep in its mouth. David explains in very descriptive terms how he pursued the bear and lion, smote them, and when they rose up, smote them again and killed them. In testifying of his experience, he went out without fear and with the intent to take back his father’s sheep. David showed great resolve and determination that would deliver the sheep from being killed and eaten. It is behind the scenes where we develop faith, resolve, quick decision making, strategic tactics, eventual victory, and valuable experience.

We see the rescue.

David rescued the sheep from both the lion and bear. His effort was done in private when no one else was there. Our greatest achievements are, many times, that which only you and God can see. There are the secret times in our prayer closet where battles are fought and won. There are the repeated works of service done behind the scenes that prove our worth and prepare us for the greater work. The rescue of the sheep in private meant that David was preparing his worthiness in valor, skill, and courage.

We see the ratification.

David gave the credit for his victory in private to God. He validated that God trusted him and he trusted in God. He validated that he had courage. He validated that he could get the job done. He validated that God’s power and presence were in his life. David testified that the Lord Who delivered him from the lion and bear would deliver him from Goliath. Our worthiness in public must always be proven in secret. We are not fit to do the greater work for God until we have won the private battles that God sends to prepare us. It’s behind the scenes where we develop the faith and readiness for God’s greater work.

Have an enabled God Morning!
