Better Than Life

Today's Verse:

Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. ~Psalm 63:3

We are born with a desire to enjoy life. We enjoy living healthy, living happily, living successfully, and living for many years. We do what we can to live life to its fullest. God told Moses to choose life. David spoke about something that is better than life. Is there something that is better than life? He said, “Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.” This morning, let us see what God’s lovingkindness does for us.

His lovingkindness enables us when we are fainting.

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.” David describes being in a desert setting where there is no water. It has the idea of having been without water for such a long time that your tongue is swelling, your lips are parched, and your body is crying out for hydration. When we are spiritually dried up, it is then when we realize our need to call upon the Lord to satisfy our thirst. Being spiritually dried up is fainting in your life. As we cry out to God for the help we need, His lovingkindness makes itself real to us.

His lovingkindness enables us when we are followed.

But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.” Our spiritual enemies are on our trail seeking to attack us from behind just as Amalek did to the Israelites. They want to attack us when we are not watching and when we are weak. The enemy’s goal is to wear us out, overwhelm us, and ultimately destroy us. This can be very intimidating. However, God’s lovingkindness strengthens and give us confidence. It is a reminder that the enemy is a defeated foe.

His lovingkindness enables us when we have been forsaken.

David knew the feeling of being forsaken. This is knowing that you are not wanted and left alone. It is abandonment. It is a lonely feeling. It is during those times when His lovingkindness comes alongside to comfort and stabilize us that God is there. Hagar experienced the lovingkindness of God when she was told to leave the home of Abram and Sarai. There at a well, she said, “Thou God seest me.” His lovingkindness became very personal and gave her a source of hope.

His lovingkindness enables us when we are faithful.

My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.” His lovingkindness draws us closer to Him. It gives us strength and satisfaction. It gives us sweet and wonderful thoughts of God’s goodness in the evening. It helps us to sleep at night. It creates in us a desire to be closer and closer to Him.

God’s lovingkindness is better than life because it is our life. It keeps us praying, praising, and pursuing. It keeps us going, growing, and glowing. Thank the Lord today for His lovingkindness, and rejoice that is it better than life!

Have a love-enriched God Morning!
