Bible Benefits

Today's Verse:

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. ~Psalm 19:7-8

Whenever someone evaluates an offer for employment, it is good to study the perks or benefits the prospective employer offers. In many cases, the monetary value of the benefits could equal 20%-35% of the person’s salary. These benefits may be the compelling motive for accepting the offer and staying with the company. Psalm 19 is a very familiar and beloved psalm. It speaks to us about the means by which God reveals Himself to us. In vv. 7-10, we are given simple-to-understand instruction on the benefits of obeying the Bible, God’s Word.

We see the perfecting of the Bible.

“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul.” God’s Word is His medicine for the restoring of our soul. God always has a timely word for us. He is never too late, and He is never too soon. He has for us what we need in good times and bad times. The Word of God enables us and changes us when we spend time in it.

We see the prudence of the Bible.

“The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.” God’s Word is the best source for wisdom and prudence. It gives us wisdom for our decisions, our direction, our discernment, and when things are dark. “Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end” (Proverbs 19:20).

We see the prompting of the Bible.

“The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart.” The Bible moves us to worship. Reading it causes us to pause and thank the Lord for His greatness. It also moves us to witness. It moves us to gladly tell others about the Lord. It moves us to work and service. It is the best job description on what to do for God.

We see the purifying of the Bible.

“The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.” God orders our steps through His Word. Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” It shows us the right path to take. It shows us our sin and whatever is keeping us from maximizing God’s blessing in our life.

We see the perpetuity of the Bible.

“The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever.” God’s Word is forever. “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” God’s Word stands the test of time. Civilizations and leaders come and go, but God’s Word is still the same then and now. Earthly authors are popular for a season of time. God and His Word never pass away.

We see the precision of the Bible.

“The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.” God’s Word is truthful and always right. It does not need to be contested because it cannot be contested. Contracts fail, promises of men fail, but God’s Word never fails.

We see the preciousness of the Bible.

“More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” God’s Word is to be desired above anything and anyone else. He said it is more precious than gold! It is much sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.

We see the profitability of the Bible.

“Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.” Moody said, “This Book will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this Book.” The Bible is to be the first and final source for our spiritual authority.

There are great benefits from reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating on God’s Word. Love your Bible, and spend time in it!

Have a Word-filled God Morning!
