Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way. Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them. ~Psalm 119:128-129
Are you someone who will be faithful to the very end? Can circumstances and uncertainties change you? The psalmist was concerned about his oppressors and their rejection of God’s Word. He was concerned about the decline towards God’s righteousness and godly values. He felt overwhelmed and feeble, but he was faithful.
“I have done judgment and justice: leave me not to mine oppressors.” In spite of the pressures to compromise and give in, he remained faithful in his dealings with others. There was nothing false in his dealings. There were no half-truths and bending of the rules. He exercised integrity and equity in all of his dealings. He maintained a consistent and honorable testimony for the Lord. Others might compromise in areas of truth and honesty, but you remain faithful.
“Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.” He made a profound declaration: he said he esteemed all of God’s precepts concerning all things to be right. God’s Word is always right. God’s Word makes the right call in every situation that we face. God’s Word will never fail us.
“Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy, and teach me thy statutes. I am thy servant; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies.” He was God’s servant in a difficult place. He was pleading for mercy and understanding so that he could understand the steps that he should take. As a servant of the Lord, he was not trying to make any judgment calls without the Lord’s wisdom and help. He was committed to staying as a servant and not bailing out. Sometimes serving God can be difficult, but be committed to staying faithful. Being God’s servant to people who are hateful can be trying, but remain faithful.
“It is time for thee, LORD, to work: for they have made void thy law.” He was praying for God to send an old fashioned revival. He acknowledged how the ungodly have disregarded God’s Word in daily living. He was pleading for God to arise and show that He is strong. Keep praying even if you are the only one left praying. Keep praying for God to arise and send revival. Ask God to rise up and do something great. Even if you are the only one praying for revival, keep praying for revival. Even if you are the only who believes God answers prayer, keep praying.
The psalmist was feeble in his thoughts, in his steps, and in his body. However, he remained faithful. His motto was “none of these things move me.” In your weakness, be faithful. If you experience a setback, stay faithful. If things are moving slower than you like, remain faithful.
