First Things First

Today’s Verse:

I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. ~Psalm 16:8

There are many things in life that vie for our attention. It can become very confusing and overwhelming for some of us to know the right priority in life. David made a proclamation about the right priority in his life. He said, “I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” He was saying, “First things first.”

Putting God first begins as a desire.

We should desire God above anything and everything else in our life. We should desire God’s will, God’s Word, and God’s way in everything that we do. Everything important in life is fueled by our desires. Do you desire God more than life itself? Do you desire to advance God’s cause through your life?

Putting God first is a decision.

Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” It is a heartfelt decision. It is a choice that is made out of passion for God. It is a holy decision. It is the best decision that we can make for our life. Once we have decided to set the Lord always before us, it changes the perspective of how we do things. God is the whole picture and not just part of the picture. We want to get God’s directive on everything when we put Him first.

Putting God first gives us durability.

David said, “I shall not be moved.” The false winds of doctrine cannot move us. The world, the flesh, and the devil cannot move our affection for God. Trials and adversities cannot move us from putting God first. Paul said that sufferings, persecution, and hardships could not move him. We are rock solid because we are on the Solid Rock!

Putting God first is for our direction.

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” When God is first, our pathway is bright! When God is first, our pathway is biblical! His Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path! When God is first, our pathway is blessed. There is fullness of joy and pleasures for evermore.

Make a determination to put God first in your life! There is every advantage and reason to give God the keys to your life and let Him assume the driver’s seat. Do yourself the best favor possible: set the Lord always before you! Make today a day where “first things are first!”

Have a Christ-exalting God Morning!
