Get Your Fill!

Today’s Verse:

And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, ~Luke 4:1

Moody was to have a campaign in England. An elderly pastor protested, “Why do we need this ‘Mr. Moody’? He’s uneducated, inexperienced, etc. Who does he think he is anyway? Does he think he has a monopoly on the Holy Spirit?” A younger, wiser pastor rose and responded, “No, but the Holy Spirit has a monopoly on Mr. Moody.” (https://bible.org/illustration/d-l-moody-2)

One of my favorite chapters of the Bible is Luke 4, and the emphasis of the Holy Spirit in the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. This chapter is a vital reminder of the importance of the Spirit’s power and influence on our lives. Let us see the importance of getting your fill of the Spirit.

We see the complete POSSESSION.

“And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost…” The fullness of the Holy Spirit occurs when the Spirit has control over every area of our life. This begins with a total yielding of our heart, soul, mind, and body to the Holy Spirit. It continues when there is a yearning within us for the Spirit to be in control and possession. It is more than just a matter of how much of the Sprit we have. It is a matter of how much the Holy Spirit has of us. We cannot be full of the Holy Spirit until everything about us is under His control. Jesus was recognizable as being under the Spirit’s control.

We see the conscious PERMISSION.

“And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.” The fullness of the Spirit results in us having the leadership of the Spirit. Being led of the Spirit is having God’s permission on every step we take. Jesus was led of the Spirit from Jordan to the wilderness. To the average person, going to the wilderness did not make sense. From a spiritual perspective, going to the wilderness represented a divine purpose that was at work. The fullness of the Spirit directs us in making unmistakable steps in the right direction. Jesus knew where He was going and why He was going there.

We see the conquering POWER.

The fullness of the Spirit gives us extraordinary power over Satan’s fiery darts. Jesus withstood three strong and persuasive temptations from Satan. He was tempted in the areas of appetite, avarice, and ambition. We are frequently tested in our desires, power, greed, and pride. Being in the power of the Spirit, Jesus successfully overcame each temptation. The fullness of the Spirit gives us extraordinary power for service. This includes power in preaching and the declaration of the gospel. When God’s Word is preached, it is the Spirit Who does the transformation and the saving. The fullness of the Spirit gives us extraordinary power for sustainability. When we are filled with the Spirit, we experience endurance and resilience against weariness and discouragement. We are more than conquerors through the Spirit’s fullness.

We see the consistent PRODUCTIVITY.

The Spirit’s fullness is the only means to seeing much fruit in our endeavors. The Spirit’s fullness is tied to our abiding in the Lord and constant obedience. We see answered prayers, souls saved, breakthroughs in our endeavors, and quantitative growth. In Luke 4, we see Jesus doing unexplainable deeds over and over again to larger and larger gatherings of people. The fullness of the Spirit makes consistent productivity a norm in our ministering.

Get your fill of the Spirit! Let the Holy Spirit have a monopoly in your life. Seek His fullness so that you have His permission, His power, and His productivity at work through you.

Have a Spirit-filled God Morning!
