Go to the Field

Today's Verse:

And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter. ~Ruth 2:2

The Book of Ruth is one of the most touching books of the Bible. It captures for us the tragedy and triumph of two women: Naomi and Ruth. It is a beautiful picture of the Jewish kinsman redeemer. It has great historical significance that leads us to the messianic lineage. It revolves around a man named Boaz who is a picture of Christ, and a Gentile woman named Ruth who is shown God’s grace in being redeemed into the lineage of Christ. This morning, we want to consider the field of Boaz.

We see it was a place of supply.

Boaz is the owner of this field. The very first mention of him is that of a mighty man of wealth and as a kinsman of Elimelech. This field was one that was fertile for growing crops. It was a field that was fruitful at the time of harvest. There were many who worked in this field as reapers. It was a place of abundant supply. Ruth went to the field seeking grace for her need. Our Lord Jesus is a mighty man of wealth. He never ceases to supply our need. He is a master owner Who will never run out nor can be depleted of His supply for us.

We see it was a place for sinners.

Ruth was a Moabitess. She was considered a stranger or alien. The Mosaic command stated that no Moabite could enter into the congregation of the Israelites for up to ten generations. Even though she was a foreigner by birth, she found grace in the eyes of Boaz and gleaned in his fields. Boaz did not turn her away. Our Lord never turns away any sinner who comes to Him. No sinner need fear entering into the field of our Savior. He is ever merciful and gracious to receive all who will enter into His presence. Christ Jesus receiveth sinful men.

We see it was a place of salvation.

This field was a place of salvation. There she would glean for her needs. She was received with grace by Boaz. We are saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus. She found rest and safety in that field. She was overwhelmed by the mercies of Boaz and asked, “Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?” When a stranger comes to the field of Boaz, he finds salvation. She found hope in spite of her hopeless condition.

It was a place of security.

Boaz took Ruth into his family. He performed the responsibility of a kinsman redeemer. She found security when she became part of his family. Every sinner who places his faith in the Lord Jesus as Savior can never lose his salvation. We are kept by the power of God through faith. God does the keeping, and not us. Boaz fulfilled a necessary transaction when he redeemed her. She entered into a relationship that protected and sheltered her. Ruth was in a place of security.

Are you in the field of Boaz? Have you taken advantage of the abundance of grace and supply from his field?

Have a secure God Morning!
