But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased. ~Psalm 115:3
God is the Hebrew name Elohim. Elohim incorporates the entire Godhead which is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When we refer to God, we speak of the only one, true, living, eternal, almighty, unchanging, and holy God. There are not enough books that can be written about God. There are not enough words and adjectives that can describe Him. God is not just God of the past or God of the future. He is God of the present. We can say, “God is.” God is real! God is relational! God is relevant! God is Redeemer! This morning, let us see the God Who is.
“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake.” "But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the LORD." The first thing about God is that He is worthy of all glory, praise, and honor. We are not worthy of glory: God is! We should praise God always. Tozer said that the greatest thing about us is what we think about God. Our walk with God must entail continuous, heartfelt worship and reverence. Did you praise Him for His wonderful name? Did you praise Him for His power and grace? Did you praise Him for Who He is? Did you praise Him for saving you?
God is in the heavens. He rules over the affairs of this world and over our lives from His sovereign throne. There is nothing that He cannot do. He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. God makes no mistakes and there is nothing He does that He has to undo. He hath done whatsoever He pleased. He has control over nature. He is in control over our storms. He is in control of our successes and when we fail. He is in control and never out of control. Our backs might be up against the wall, but He is in control. We might be outnumbered, outsized, and out of “options,” but He is in control.
“The LORD hath been mindful of us….” We are never out of His mind. He does what is best for us and what pleases Him. He blesses us despite our failures. He blesses us according to His goodness and not according to our goodness. He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins. He gives us grace to help in time of need. He provided us with salvation through the sacrificial and substitutionary death of Christ on the cross for our sins.
Three times reference is made to trust in the Lord. We can trust Him nationally. We can trust Him corporately as a church. We can trust Him personally. God can be trusted in all things. We can trust God for our safety. We can trust God for our steps. We can trust God for our family, our finances, our future, and our fears. Without faith, it is impossible to please Him. Trusting God means we lean upon Him completely. Trusting God demands our obedience to His Word. We must trust in what He says we should do, whether it makes sense or not. We must trust in Him even when the way looks murky and unclear. We only need enough light for the next step. Simply trust God!
He is the God Who is! He is for you and not against you. Do not speak of God from the past or of the future, but powerfully grasp that He is the God Who is today!
