God Only

He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. ~Psalm 62:2

Psalm 62 is a psalm of praise. It is written to a man named Jeduthun. He was a Levite who was responsible for leading the people of God in singing. This is one of three psalms that are written to him to be sung with the congregation. His name means “praising.” It is a psalm that emphasizes the importance of complete trust and confidence in God regardless of our circumstances and situation. In this psalm, David makes very clear that God only was his confidence and trust.

We see the steadfastness.

“He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.” When our confidence is in God only, our foundation and footing is very sure. We stand upon a rock so massive that nothing can move us. There is no salvation in any other. There is no other foundation that is more concrete than when we stand upon the Lord. The winds of change cannot move us. The wiles of men cannot move us. The wickedness of our society cannot move us. No, we have a steadfast confidence when our confidence is in God only.

We see the stillness.

“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.” When our confidence is in God only, we learn that there is nothing better for us than to be still and know that He is God! It does not matter how much larger and how much louder the enemy is. We can wait upon the Lord and expect Him to help us. When Israel came to the shoreline of the Red Sea with the Egyptian army behind them, they felt like they were between a rock and a hard spot. The nearness of the Egyptian army was too close for their comfort. However, they had no choice but to wait upon God, and as they did, they saw how God fought their battle for them.

We see the stipulation.

“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” No matter how dark, difficult, or distressing the situation appears to us, one thing should be sure: trust in Him at all times! Confidence in the Lord is not seasonal: it is year-round. It is not just for when we can see ahead of us; it is also for the many times when we cannot see very far ahead. All times means bad times as well as good times. It requires that we pour out our entire heart to Him and trust Him completely for the outcome.

We see the standard.

“Power belongeth unto God”! There is no greater power than God’s power. There is no power that can deliver like God’s power. There is no power that can preserve like God’s power. There is no power that can conquer like God’s power. His power is absolute and unmatched.

“He only is my rock and my salvation”! God is the only One Who can get us out of our tough predicaments. He is the only One Who can answer our prayers. He is the only One Whom we can always trust. Let go of the idols that you trust in, and determine today that He only is your Rock! Let go of the excuses that are holding you back from being completely confident in Him! “He only is my rock and my salvation”!

Have a confident God Morning!
