How Losers Become Winners

Today's Verse:

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: ~1 Corinthians 1:27-28

Have you ever watched a master chef take simple ingredients and make a delicious meal out of them? By themselves, these simple ingredients have minimal value. Yet, in the hands of a masterful chef, these ingredients are transformed into something that is a blessing to everyone who partakes of them. This morning, let us be encouraged that God specializes in using people whom others think are useless. Let us see how losers can become winners.

We see a pitiful description.

Think of the description of a loser: foolish things, weak things, base things, and things that are despised. In the eyes of the well-educated, the extremely athletic, the powerfully rich, the scientifically advanced, and the social elite, losers have no place with them. They have no place in their classrooms, on their teams, on their board of directors, and in their society. They are considered useless, not worthy of attention, and losers. They are rejected, despised, ignored, and worthless.

We see a profitable desire.

“But God hath chosen…” What a blessing to know that whatever this world finds as useless, God sees as useful. No matter who you are and what your situation may be, God sees value in you. God sees someone who is useful in His hands. I’m reminded of the words of Psalm 8 when it says, “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” Let us always remember that God never writes anyone off or throws anyone under the bus. In Psalm 139:17, the psalmist said, “How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!” Before you give up on yourself, remember that God has not given up on you!

We see a proven dynamic.

God specializes in using the weak and despised things for His glory! God used trumpets to bring down the walls of Jericho. He reduced Gideon’s army from 32,000 to 300 to rout the armies of Midian (Judges 7:1-25). He used an ox goad in the hand of Shamgar to defeat the Philistines. With the jawbone of a donkey, He enabled Samson to defeat a whole army. Jesus fed over 5,000 with nothing more than a few loaves and fishes. God used the death of His only begotten Son on the cross to satisfy His demands for sin.

We see a prioritized decision.

We know that God can turn a loser into a winner. We know that God uses the weak to defeat the mighty. God rebuilds, restores, and renovates. The decision is yours. Will you give all that you have to God, just as you are, and allow Him to do something remarkable through you? Will you have the faith like the little lad who gave his lunch basket consisting of five loaves and two fishes for Jesus to use? Or will you be frustrated and say like the disciples, “What are they among so many?” God can use you if you let Him.

Have a dedicated God Morning!
