Important Reminders

Today’s Verse:

“This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:” ~2 Peter 3:1-2

All of us appreciate and understand the importance of reminders. Sometimes, a wife or mother will leave a written reminder to her husband or children that she has food put aside for them in the refrigerator. If we are using a public facility, we might see a sign by the light switch that reminds us to turn off the lights if we are the last one to leave. Reminders can be safety reinforcements. Reminders are necessary so that we do not take things for granted. This morning, we see some important reminders Peter gave to the churches he wrote to.

Let us be stirred about the conversion of SINNERS.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” The Lord is merciful and longsuffering that more unbelievers will be saved. We tend to look at our sin-ravaged world and pray that the Lord will come now. However, the Lord is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Keep praying and witnessing to family members and friends who are not saved that they will get saved soon. Keep participating in the church soulwinning outreach. Keep praying for the missionaries, that God will use them to see more people saved and churches started. Be stirred for the conversion of sinners.

Let us be stirred about the coming of the SAVIOR.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” The Day of the Lord refers to the second coming of the Lord when He comes as Judge. At the close of the millennium, Satan is cast into the Lake of Fire, all unbelievers appear before the Great White Throne Judgment, and the heavens and earth will pass away. A New Heaven and a New Earth will replace it. First, we must be ready at all times for the Rapture of the Saints. Second, we must remember that this sin-cursed world will be replaced. “Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.” Be stirred about the coming of the Savior.

Let us be stirred about the consecration of our SOULS.

“Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.” We are to give all diligence towards a life that is circumspect, separated, and serene. The Lord’s soon coming is a great incentive towards holy living. God’s people need to remove themselves from being busy bodies, gossiping, complaining, fault-finding, and being contentious. Our thought should always be that we do not want to be found ashamed at His appearing. Be stirred about the consecration of your soul.

Let us be stirred in continuous STEADFASTNESS.

“Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” Be steadfast and always abounding in the grace and work of the Lord. Don’t be a victim of Satan’s ruses and fall away.

The Lord gives us important reminders for finishing the Christian life strong and well. Stir up your pure minds and keep these reminders fresh.

Have a stirring God Morning!
