And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. ~Isaiah 46:4
Whenever I purchase goods or services, I am interested in knowing what kind of guarantees the seller or producer is willing to give me. Most warranties or guarantees have a time limit on what they will do for you. I’m also concerned as to what exclusions and limitations they have on their product or service. Rarely will you find a merchandiser who will give a lifetime guarantee. However, in Isaiah 46:4 the Lord gives us a lifetime guarantee that will not fail.
“Even to your old age…even to hoar hairs....” We cannot avoid the fact that we are getting older. Getting older is manifested in the changes in our looks, the graying of our hair, and the decrease in our ability. Some people dread the fact that they are getting older. As Christians, we should welcome our aging process as an opportunity for leaving a great spiritual legacy for those coming up behind us. Our motto should be that all those coming up behind us would find us faithful. Let us grow old gracefully. Let us make the most of our older years to the benefit of others.
God said that He will carry and bear us. What an encouragement that is! Old age and gray hairs are an indication of burdens and heartaches. We have fears that grip us. We grasp the idea of our mortality much more seriously. We find out we have sicknesses and health ailments that are controlled by medications or need more serious medical care. It is a blessing to know that in the midst of the hard choices we will have to make, God has promised to carry and sustain us. We are still in His arms! He carries us like babies. We can still lean on the Lord for our help. We can still cast our burdens upon the Lord. Let us continue to lean on His everlasting arms as we get older.
We can still be profitable in our service and deeds as we get older. “Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing” As we get older, our commitment and involvement in the Lord’s house and work should increase. I am thinking of a good friend who got saved after he retired. He immediately got involved in his church and was a great help to his church and pastor in so many ways until the Lord took him home ten years ago. He was bringing forth fruit in his old age. Be someone so productive and fruitful that you will be missed when you leave this life.
God gives the lifetime guarantee that He will be there to sustain us, support us, solace us, and strengthen us. He promises to bear us on His shoulders. He promises to carry us in our weakness. God loves us so much that in our seniority, we are never forsaken. God does not change on us; He is always the same.
Yes, we have a lifetime guarantee. Life gets sweeter as we get older. Getting older is an opportunity for God to show Himself strong on our behalf. Be strengthened and encouraged that He carries us even to our old age!
