Make Up Your Mind

Today’s Verse:

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. ~James 1:8

Are you able to make good decisions? Or are you someone who vacillates between decisions? The children of Israel were guilty of worshiping the Lord and worshiping Baal. Elijah confronted them by asking, “How long halt ye between two opinions?” This morning, we are looking at the double minded man.

There is the description of a double minded man.

A double minded man is someone trying to derive the best of two worlds. On one hand, he understands and, to a degree, accepts the importance of walking in the Spirit, but on the other hand, he also wants to enjoy the benefits of sin for a season. He is like Lot who desired the well-watered plains of Sodom but also wanted the benefits of fellowship with Uncle Abraham. A double minded man is not a spiritual person. A double minded man puts up a good face before his Christian friends, but to the world, he lives just like them.

There is the danger of a double minded man.

He is unstable in all his ways. This means he is unpredictable and subject to frequent change. He is not reliable in his decisions. He is not a man of faith. One moment, he says that he has faith in God, but the next moment, he has little to no faith. One moment, he says that he will be faithful, but the next moment, he is nowhere to be found. A double minded man is a discouragement to other believers. He will disappoint those who place their trust in him. Putting your complete trust in someone who is double minded could lead to failure and defeat. Worse, the double minded man is a danger to himself. His spiritual life will be a disaster in all spiritual matters.

There is the deliverance of a double minded man.

A person who has this tendency does not need to stay this way. First, he must recognize that he is double minded and confess this as a sin. Second, he needs to repent of this sin and turn away from the sins and weights that are pulling him down. Third, he needs to submit himself to those in spiritual authority who can help him make right choices and decisions. Fourth, he needs to decide to walk in the light of God’s Word to strengthen his faith and dependence upon God.

Be a Christian who makes up his mind. Decide to follow the Lord! Decide to trust the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. Don’t be double minded: be single minded in your reliance upon the Lord!

Have a focused God Morning!
