In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. ~2 Corinthians 4:4
One of the ploys in warfare is for each side to play mind games with the other. These mind games seek to confuse, disrupt, and mislead the opponent. The side that is most successful in messing with the mind of its opponent will have the upper hand. Satan, as the god of this world, seeks to blind the minds of all who do not believe. It can be said that he continues to play these mind games with every believer after he is saved. Drawing from Genesis 3:1-6, would you consider how Satan plays the mind game with us?
Satan came to Eve in a manner in which she was not aware of his agenda. He started the mind game with Eve by causing her to question God’s Word. He said, “Yea, hath God said...?” In other words, did God really say this? Is this in God’s Word? Once she engaged in dialogue with Satan, he proceeded to place doubts in her mind. He said, “Ye shall not surely die.” Satan blinds the minds of men through deceit and doubt. He deceives us into thinking that we don’t have the right facts, that God is wrong, and that God really did not mean what He said. Once Satan sees signs that we are showing any interest in what he is saying, he then causes us to doubt the Lord and His spiritual authority of our life. Satan deceives and creates doubt, but he further deceives. He told Eve that her eyes would be opened and she would become as gods. He promised her something that was not true and that he could not deliver on. Satan’s strategy is greatly deceptive.
Once Satan knows that we have bought into his deceit, we have fallen for his trap. We believe his lies. We start doubting God’s precious Word and think that God is holding out on us. We start thinking about what we will get out of his temptation. We have fallen into his snare. His snares are open pits in which the fall is long and hard. His snare trapped Eve and led her to eat of the forbidden fruit and to share it with her husband. When Satan ensnares us, his goal is that we take others with us. Snares are deadly traps. Snares never result in any good. Eve bought the lies and fell big time.
First, test whatever you read, hear, or are told to the Word of God. If it does not stand the test of God’s Word, it is a lie! Second, our thoughts need to be brought captive to the obedience of the Lord Jesus Christ every day in everything. Paul said this. Either our thoughts are brought captive or our thoughts will make us their captive! Second, determine to know your Bible doctrine and the Word of God. Don’t leave yourself open to Satan's attack. Third, we must resist the devil, and he will flee from us. We must tell Satan no. We must resist thoughts that will lead to sin and rebellion. Let the light of God’s Word light up your path instead of letting the blinding light of Satan mislead you in the wrong direction.
Don’t be a victim of a mind game. Gird up the loins of your mind and think soberly. Claim the victory that is in the Lord Jesus.
