Mountain Top Living

Today's Verse:

Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights. The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live. ~Psalm 119:143-144

Are you intrigued by the idea of mountain top living? By this, I am referring to making an arduous journey to the top of a mountain peak, taking in the fresh air, and delighting in the panoramic views from that height. More than ever before, scores of people around the world are spending thousands of dollars and are willing to take on numerous risks to climb Mount Everest all the way to its summit. For those who have successfully made it, there is a physical, emotional, and somewhat of a spiritual elation of having accomplished such a task. Let us see the greatness of living on the mountain top.

There are the grievous valleys.

“I am small and despised... Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me.” The psalmist reminds us that we will walk through valleys that will try our faith. Valleys are always a picture of anguish, suffering, and trials. These valleys give us fears, heartaches, stress, and much worry. Our nights are long and sleepless. Our days are difficult and overwhelming. We feel like our problem is bigger than us. We can hear the voices of people criticizing us and saying that we must have done something bad to deserve what is happening to us. We feel suppressed and wonder at times if there is an end to all of this anguish. The valleys of life can be grievous.

There is the glorious virtue.

In Psalm 119:137-144, the psalmist testifies of God’s righteousness. We see this in vv. 137, 138, 142, and 144. Righteousness refers to God’s holiness. God is righteous in Person. God is righteous through His Word. God is righteous in His acts. In all of His works and dealings, God is righteous. In comparison, all men are declared unrighteous. “There is none righteous, no, not one.” God’s righteousness is truth. We must understand that at the top of every mountain is the righteousness of God. The exhilaration of getting to the top is not that we have made it; rather, it is the fact that we have met with God according to Who He is. Mountain top living begins with the righteousness of God which is by faith in Jesus Christ. From that point forward, we can only meet God on His terms when we desire to live according to His righteous commands. Mountain top living is only attainable when we live according to God’s righteousness.

There are the guaranteed victories.

Mountain top living is where we attain guaranteed victories. There on the mountain top, God’s Word is fresh and revitalizing to our spirit. There on the mountain top, we see our troubles from God’s eye lens and not ours. There are on the mountain top, we can see the big picture and not our perceptions. There on the mountain top, we are at a place where the enemy cannot touch us. There on the mountain top, we understand the faith walk and trust God without reservation. There on the mountain top, we are given a fresh zeal for the days ahead and how to face our challenges. There on the mountain top, we can say, “Give me understanding, and I shall live”!

Are you ready to scale the utmost heights and catch a gleam of glory bright? Humble yourself, and let God’s Word and righteousness take you high above whatever circumstance you are facing. It’s time to pursue mountain top living.

Have a mountain top God Morning!
