Never Give Up

Today's Verse:

They had almost consumed me upon earth; but I forsook not thy precepts. ~Psalm 119:87

How much can you take before you are ready to quit? I mean, how bad do things have to get before you feel like it is not worth it to trust in the Lord? We see the situation for the psalmist taking a turn for the worst. His foes were advancing against him and he was suffering very badly. In spite of all this, we see a man who just keeps on trusting the Lord.

We see a man who is fainting.

“My soul fainteth for thy salvation…Mine eyes fail for thy word.” He was at a low point spiritually, emotionally, and physically. He was waiting for a word of comfort from God, but there was no immediate answer. He was losing hope that he will not win over the enemy. He was almost at the place where he was ready to quit. The extreme of trials in our life will test us in our resilience. What will discouragement do to you? How much can you endure before you will quit?

We see a man who is fearful.

The adversity has made advances on him. "For I am become like a bottle in the smoke… How many are the days of thy servant?... The proud have digged pits for me… They had almost consumed me upon earth." He felt like he was being eaten alive. He saw the situation getting worse and the enemy getting the best of him. In essence, he was afraid that he will give up on God. He even asked how many days he has left. When our circumstances take a turn for the worst, we can become like this man and our eyes are more on the problem than they are on the Lord. Our fears can bring out the worst in us and leave us feeling hopeless. "The fear of man bringeth a snare."

We see a man who is faithful.

In spite of fainting and being fearful, this man was a true trooper. He remained faithful. He refused to give up. “But I hope in thy word… yet do I not forget thy statutes… but I forsook not thy precepts.” He clung to God’s Word for hope. He remembered the promise that God will never leave him or forsake him. He refused to disobey God and become dishonorable. He would not curse God or his enemies. He was faithful in the midst of the storm. His motto is, “I just keep trusting my Lord!” All of us need to be like Eleazar whose hand clave to the sword even as he was out-numbered. Be faithful!

We see a man who is to be followed.

This man is a powerful example for us to follow when we are going through tough times. Just keep trusting the Lord when darkness overshadows your life. Just keep trusting the Lord when there are no immediate answers. Just keep trusting the Lord when those who are against you keep digging more pits for you to fall into. Hold your Bible close to your heart, stay bended on your knees, and have faith in God’s love to get you through your difficult situation. Say like this man, “I just keep trusting my Lord!”

Have a faithful God Morning!
