Our Advocate

Today’s Verse:

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: ~1 John 2:1

The term “going to bat for you” has the idea of someone coming alongside to help you in a major or legal matter. It is someone standing up for our rights, our insufficiency, and our representation. First John 2:1 is an awesome reality that we have an Advocate Who goes to bat for us.

There is the definition of an advocate.

An advocate refers to someone who represents another person in a matter. It is used often to describe someone who stands on behalf of another person legally. An advocate is a person who has the knowledge, skills, and persuasive ability to defend, support, and attain positive results for the person he is representing. An advocate is the best friend you have when you are in trouble. An advocate does not take “no” for an answer. An advocate represents with intense tenacity. He is persistent. He will pull out all the stops in advocating for his friend. An advocate has one goal, and that is to win for the one he represents.

There is the duty of the Advocate.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Christian’s Advocate! He is our Advocate with the Father. Why do we need Jesus as an Advocate? We still have the propensity to sin. John said, “If any man sin.” The Lord Jesus stands in front as our Advocate for our forgiveness. The Lord Jesus stands firm as our Advocate for our forgiveness. The Lord Jesus stands in our favor for our forgiveness. As our Advocate, Jesus is on-call at all times of the day and night. He does not take days off, vacation time, or holidays. He is all-sympathetic to our situation. He does not condemn us when we mess up. He knows how to competently represent us so that our standing with God is restored and forgiven. The blood that He shed on the cross is the legal means by which we keep on being cleansed from sin. His position at the right hand of the Father and interceding for us gives us immediate and complete forgiveness. Our Advocate always goes to bat for us.

There is the difference in an Advocate.

Without an Advocate, we are in big trouble! With an Advocate, there is fairness. As our Advocate, the Lord Jesus Christ attains a just standing for us before God. As our Advocate, the Lord Jesus gives us the confidence to move forward. As our Advocate, He helps us get a fresh start. As our Advocate, Jesus never fails! As our Advocate, we never have to have doubts about forgiveness and fellowship. Through Jesus, we have victory over the world. Through Jesus, the slanders of Satan do not stand a chance against Him. He is invincible. He has a 100% win track record. He is a feared Advocate because our enemies have no legal grounds to defeat us.

Don’t let the guilt of sin and the weakness of the flesh pull you down. “If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” Have faith in His ability to represent you. He will never let you down. He is an Advocate Who always goes to bat for us!

Have a victorious God Morning!
