Our Captain

Today's Verse:

For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. ~Hebrews 2:10

There are over 300 names that give apt descriptions of the attributes and Person of our Lord Jesus Christ. Each name is a sermon in itself. Each name is meaningful and dear to every believer. One of these names is contained in Hebrews 2:10. The name of our Lord Jesus Christ in this verse is the Captain of our salvation. This morning, join me as we salute our Captain!

As the Captain of our salvation, Jesus is our Prince.

The word for captain is also translated prince.” “Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins” (Acts 5:31). A prince is in charge as a leader. He takes responsibility for things. He is the final say on matters. It is also translated the name “author.” The word "author" has the same meaning. It implies the originator of something that He is completely responsible for. Jesus is the Prince and Lord of every Christian. Once we have received Him as our Savior, He takes full responsibility for our salvation, our security, and spiritual life. He sits at the right hand of God fulfilling His office as our Great High Priest. He is the Prince of Life!

As the Captain of our salvation, Jesus is our Propitiation.

The word "propitiation" means He satisfied God’s righteous demands for sin when He died on the cross. He took our place. He was the just dying for the unjust that He might bring us to God. The penalty of sin demands that sin must be paid for by the offender. As sinners, we are the offenders. However, Jesus is the only acceptable substitute to take our place. His sinless and perfect life as the Son of Man met God’s requirements for sin to be paid for. As the Captain of our salvation, He is perfect as the substitute to suffer for our sins. Only Jesus can make a sinner a son of God!

As the Captain of our salvation, Jesus is our Protector.

Our captain stands up on our behalf! He protects us from the attacks of the enemy. He is our succorer, that is, our helper in every situation. He is our rock upon whom we stand upon. He is the chief cornerstone so that the building of our life cannot fall. He is the One Who keeps us from falling. He is our shield and exceeding great reward. He is our Great Shepherd Who stands before us to ward off the threats of the enemy. He is our helper Who sustains us when we are weak and helpless. He energizes us when we pray to Him. He strengthens us in the hour of temptation. His name is a strong tower that the righteous can run to and find safety.

Jesus is the Captain of our salvation! We are not without a leader. We have an unconquerable Lord. We have a Captain Who laid His life down for all of us. Salute your captain! Let us acknowledge Him and give Him glory for being Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Have a confident God Morning!
