Picture This

Today’s Verse:

The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved. ~Psalm 93:1

The idiom “a picture is worth a thousand words” means that a complex idea is conveyed through a single image. Psalm 93 is a psalm that conveys a powerful message for us regarding the sovereignty and greatness of God. In the midst of a godless culture, civil unrest, and a tumultuous world, Psalm 93 encourages our faith not to give up or lose hope.

There is the powerful concept.

Psalm 93 is a theological psalm. Its emphasis is that God is strong, mighty, holy, and everlasting. It teaches us that world and economic conditions are not greater than God. The heathen may rage and the people imagine a vain thing, but God is not bothered by their threats and weapons. He is God! Sin may abound and man is utterly lawless, but God’s grace much more abounds. Man may erect walls, terrorize entire cities, and threaten the spread of the gospel, but God is still on His throne. Dictators may seize control of nations and speak blasphemous things, but the Lord reigneth. This psalm pictures for us God who is unchangeable, unmatched, and unbeatable.

There is the providential control.

This psalm also teaches us that God is completely in control. Natural disasters are within His control. The cosmos with its vastness is in His control. The nations in their strength are not stronger than God. The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord: “as the rivers of water he turneth whithersoever he will.” God is in control. “A man’s heart devises his way, but it is the Lord who directs his steps.” God never slumbers, nor sleeps. God is not taken by surprise. God does not experience setbacks. No, in the grand scheme of things God is fully in control.

There is the peaceful confidence.

We can have confidence that our God reigns. We can have confidence that our God does not lose wars or battles. We can have confidence that “greater is he that is in us, than he that is in the world.” We can have confidence that bad news to us is an opportunity for God to show He is strong on our behalf. Psalm 93 bolsters our faith and trust in God’s righteousness, God’s resources, and God’s reliability. He is always faithful! We can be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Let the armies shake: God is on our side. Let the heathen rage: God is everlasting.

Don’t be shaken in your faith! Spend time this morning meditating on Psalm 93 and realize God is on His throne. He is over all and greater than the elements. He is everlasting and cannot be moved. Our God reigns! Don’t let your difficulty, sickness, trial or setback discourage you: look above and remember the Lord reigns! Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Have a confidence empowered God morning!
