Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, ~Romans 16:25
One of the many key words in the epistle to the Romans is the word "power." The Greek words used for power is dunamis and dunami. We get our word "dynamite" from these. Our limited and finite intelligence cannot really fathom and comprehend the greatness of God’s power. Paul closes out his epistle with a word of encouragement. He says, “Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel...” Paul is encouraging us to hunger and thirst for God’s power. This morning, let us see this power.
We are talking about God’s power. It is power that is infinite, eternal, boundless, and holy. It is the power that created the heavens and the earth. It is the power that holds all things in existence. It is co-equal power among the Godhead. Jesus Christ is declared to be the Son of God with power (Romans 1:4). There is the power of the Holy Spirit that fills us with joy, peace, and hope. It is the power by which God establishes us in our faith. God’s power is absolute.
“It is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth." It is power that is "able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think”. It is power that opened up the Red Sea so that 3 million Israelites could cross it dry shod. It is power that held the sun still for an entire day and night at Joshua’s request. It is the power that Jesus exercised to cast out demons, give sight to the blind, give hearing to the deaf, cleanse lepers, multiply five little loaves and two small fishes, calm stormy seas, and raise Lazarus from the grave. It is the power by which Jesus rose from the dead after being crucified and buried for three days. It is power that answers our prayers and changes people and situations. God’s power is able.
There is enough of God’s power for every believer to access. There’s enough of God’s power for more sinners to be saved. There’s enough of God’s power to spread the gospel throughout the world, even in the most difficult and hardest to reach areas. There’s enough of God’s power to stop the mouths of lions, subdue kingdoms, work righteousness, quench the violence of fire, overthrow wickedness, and overturn bad laws and situations. There’s enough of God’s power that if only a handful of God’s people in our churches could claim it, we could see our cities won to Christ. There’s enough of God’s power that Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Catholics, and atheists can be saved in countless numbers. God’s power is ample.
It is available to stablish you in the gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ. It’s available now! It’s available if we will die to self, pray, and wait for God to work in us. It is available for revival. It is available to save hardened sinners. It is available to bruise Satan under our feet. It is available to overcome our fears. It is available to help us in our serving. It is available to claim. Do you long for power that can change you and those around you? It’s available to you today.
