And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath, ~Deuteronomy 33:13
The word "precious" is used 72 times in the Bible. It speaks of things that are of inestimable worth. It speaks of things that have considerable value and importance to us. This morning, we want to reflect on another wonderful mention of things that are precious. We want to consider the precious things of Heaven.
Heaven is the abode of God, the angels, and all who have believed on the Lord Jesus as Savior. It is a place of utmost beauty. Nothing in Heaven is old, tarnished, or obsolete. It is “a land that is fairer than day, and by faith we can see it afar. For the Father waits over the way, to prepare us a dwelling place there.” It is our Father’s house where Jesus prepares a mansion for every person who has believed on Him as Savior. It is heavenly real estate that appreciates in value. It is precious because of the furnishings and ornateness of its architecture and landscape. As a residence, Heaven is precious!
What makes Heaven important is the fact that it is the throne of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. God and Jesus are the Regal of Heaven. At this throne, angels, the church, and the heavenly host worship, sing hymns, and adore God. As the Regal of Heaven, God alone is sovereign, powerful, everlasting, and infinite. He is God, the Judge of all. He sees all things and governs the affairs of men. He is the only wise God. By His almighty hand, He makes or breaks what goes on in the universe. His Word is the first and final Word on all matters. He alone is King and Regal.
Heaven is a peaceful and happy place. Heaven is the eternal abode of the saved. Imagine how greatly Heaven rejoices every time a sinner repents of his sin and accepts Jesus as Savior. Imagine how excited the grandstand of Heaven rejoices when there is a spiritual victory here on earth. Imagine how much Heaven rejoices when a new church is started and a community is being impacted by the gospel message. Imagine the prayers of the saints as they go from earth to Heaven. Heaven is a place of great rejoicing.
The precious things of Heaven are innumerable. It is a place where there is no corruption and where all who live there are immortal. It is a place where the Lamb’s Book of Life and the Lord’s Book of Remembrance are kept and opened. It is the banqueting place of the saints. It is the house of the Lord.
This morning, let us be thankful for the precious things of Heaven and how we are blessed to be heirs and participants of its goodness.
