Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, ~2 Thessalonians 2:1
Whenever we are called on to do a presentation or performance, our success hinges on our prep time. Prep time is the preparation and rehearsals we do to be sure that we have an impeccable and compelling presentation. Prep time is what athletic teams do the week before they face off with their opponent. It is what we must do in order to be found faithful during the end times.
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition." The falling away describes spiritual apostasy. The falling away is setting the stage for the entrance of the antichrist. Paul gives an indication of this falling away in 2 Timothy 3. Evil will be called good, and good will be called evil. Sin will abound, and the love of many will grow cold. Many Christians will be lukewarm and indifferent to spiritual things. Society will be tolerant and welcoming to sinful indulgences and spiteful to God and the authority of His Word.
"That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand." As unsettling as things will be in our world, we are exhorted to be unshaken by the adverse changes that will happen. We are to be steady in all matters. The devil will seek to unsettle us in spirit, by word, in mind, and by letter. Be determined that you will not become cynical. Be determined that you will not be discouraged or lose hope. Be determined that you will be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Be determined that you will seek to win souls to Christ. Be determined to continue in the things which you have been taught.
"Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power." We must be devoted in our praying for one another. We must pray with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit for all saints. We must labor in our prayers that those we pray for will stand perfect and complete to do all the will of God. Paul asked the believers to pray for him, that the Word of the Lord would have free course. We must pray always.
"Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him." Jesus is coming soon! His coming for us will be a reunion of the dead in Christ and those us who are alive and remain. His coming will be a rescue from this present, evil world. The phrase “caught up” also means to be snatched out of the fire. Believers will not go through the Great Tribulation or suffer the wrath of God on the world during that time. His coming for us is the blessed hope of every believer. We must keep our eyes and hearts ready for His coming. We should pray for His coming. This will be our deliverance as things around us continue to deteriorate. Prep time for Jesus' coming means we must live as children of the day and not of the night. "Watch and pray, lest ye enter into temptation." Be thorough and prayed up in your prep time.
