Today’s Verse:
He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; ~Deuteronomy 32:13
Our devotion this morning speaks of the nation of Israel riding on high places. We have adapted the phrase “riding high” from this. It is a way of saying someone is enjoying the crest of success, feeling a sense of confidence and happiness and savoring the fact he is blessed. God wants to bless us for His glory. God desires that we have good success, Joshua 1:8. The way to riding high with God is subject to our obedience to Him.
We see the relationship.
“For the Lord’s portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.” The first step for enjoying the blessings of God is we must have a relationship with Him. “Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy” (1 Peter 2:10). Notice in Deuteronomy 32:10, “He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness.” We must remember that God was the one Who found us and brought us out of our sinful condition. We are His people through faith in His Son Jesus Christ as our Savior. We are a people who have obtained His mercy and have become sons of God. We are accepted in the beloved, Ephesians 1:6. We have been redeemed by His blood and received the forgiveness of sins, Ephesians 1:7. We are the sheep of His pasture and He is our Chief Shepherd. We are God’s chosen people, the apple of His eye, and the beloved of His heart.
We see the riches.
“He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; Butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape.” First, God never gives His people less than what is best for us. Second, God never lacks in resources to provide for our need. Third, He is able to do abundantly above all that we ask or think. Fourth, He supplies all our need according to our riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Last, we are blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. When God blesses, we are riding high!
We see the requirements.
God’s blessings are not a one way street or relationship. We must be in accordance with His requirements. “He led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.” Complete faith in God’s plan and leadership in our life is a requirement. We must be careful to walk with the Lord and not ahead of Him, behind Him, or without Him. A teachable spirit is a requirement. There are paths we have not walked and we must not presume that we are wiser than God. When God says go we must go. When He says stop we must stop. We must be careful not to allow interferences to come between us and the Lord. The Lord alone must lead us. We must have no other gods before us. We must abide under the shadow of His wings for our refuge and safety.
Riding high places us on the strength of eagle wings so that we can see from above and afar. It is always best to see things from God’s vantage point and not ours. Are you riding high with the Lord? If not, align yourself so that he is leading, instructing, and keeping you.
Have a blessed God Morning!
