By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea: ~Psalm 65:5
Whenever you call or knock on someone’s door, there is the anticipation of your answer. The answer is the hope of a positive response to a question or a need. The answer is the solution to a pressing problem. The answer is the right word at the right time. The answer is God showing Himself strong for us when we need Him most. The psalmist stated, “By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us.” He had this settled assurance that the answer to his requests was on the way. Psalm 65 praises the Lord for how He answers our prayers. “O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.” God answers our prayers.
“Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.” Every sinner who calls on the Lord for salvation is assured 100% forgiveness of his sins. After we are saved, we have the assurance that God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. No wonder David exclaimed, “Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity.” Will God forgive me of my sins? Yes! All sins that are forgiven cannot come back and incriminate us. Our pardon is complete and full.
“By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea: Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with power:” The psalmist refers to God’s power in all of His creation. Creation is the most visible means by which we see the awesome things of God in righteousness. He refers to God’s performance through creation. He refers to God’s purpose through creation. He also refers to God’s pleasure through creation. He hath made all things beautiful.
“Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.” What kind of man does God choose to come into His presence? He is a hungry man. This is a man who desires God’s presence and power in his life. "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." He is a humble man. He is a man who is devoid of pride and arrogance. He approaches God with the utmost carefulness and acknowledges his unworthiness. He is a holy man. He is a man who enters God’s presence with a clean heart and clean hands.
“Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.” God’s providence is a demonstration of His care for us. It is a demonstration of His control in all of our affairs. It is the means by which God builds our faith and confidence in how He has the answers that we are looking for. Through His providence, we understand that God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. Through His providence, we learn that a man’s heart deviseth his way, but the Lord directeth his steps. Beloved, the answer is always on the way.
Don’t allow life’s difficulties shroud the fact that God’s answers for us are always on the way. His answers are perfectly timed, perfectly thorough, and perfectly truthful.
