Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. ~Psalm 110:3
I love the coolness of the early morning before the sun starts to rise. There is something refreshing about the cool, clean morning air coupled with the dew that is on the grass and plants. Morning dew is moisture that settles during the evening on the plants and ground. Psalm 110 is a messianic psalm about the Lord Jesus Christ. It speaks majestically of Christ as our great High Priest and King. In v. 3, a description is given about the influence of our Lord. He is described as having the dew of His youth. This morning, let us examine the blessing of “the dew of thy youth.”
The dew of youth is a gift from God. It is a resource that is from Heaven above. We cannot manufacture or produce it. It is the voice of the Lord walking in the garden in the cool of the day. It is the welcome arrival of every new morning. It is the daily moisture that sustains life until the next season of rain. It is God’s gift for our weary and depleted souls. It is the newness of the presence of God as we enter a new daily time of devotion with Him.
The dew of youth speaks of vitality and invigoration. It is the needed moisture for daily plant hydration. It is the drops that settle upon the grass and give them the strength and beauty for another day. The dew of youth is the vitality that is ready to take on a new day. It is the boost to our faith. It is the heavenly droplets in our souls after a season of prayer and time in the Word. It is the impetus that propels our faith to do the impossible. It is the encouragement that we need when we have been exhausted and drained. It is Christ in us, the hope of glory.
Dew drops touch everything they settle upon. The dew of youth is a resource that touches the lives around it. It is good influence being spread in many directions. It is the salt of our life being poured out to make those around us thirsty for the Lord. It is the light within us illuminating the lives of those walking in darkness. It is the gospel message delivering a soul captive and going to Hell. It is a word of counsel from God’s servant seeking to restore a fallen soul. It is a word of encouragement that leads someone who is timid to fear not and to follow.
The dew of youth keeps the soul from becoming dried up and lifeless. We need the dew of Christ’s presence on us each and every day. We have no means to produce dew for ourselves. We must wait for it each day. We must be in the same place to receive it each day. We must receive all that we are given and not say, "It is too much." We can never have too much of the Lord, too much of His Word, too much of prayer, too much of church, or too much of His enablement. We need the freshness of the dew to keep us youthful and energized.
The dew of youth and the early morning is something that we must protect. Interruption occurs when it is withdrawn. Interruption occurs when it is declined. Interruption occurs when something else gets between us and the dew. Let us be careful not to neglect or interrupt the dew of youth.
The presence of Christ is the dew of His youth upon us. Let us be sure that we are in our place and ready without interference to receive His freshness every day.
