Today’s Verse:
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? ~Psalm 118:6
Who do you go to if you need help? Little children go to their parents. Little brothers or sisters go to their bigger brothers and sisters. Members of a congregation go to their pastors. Wives go to their husbands. The psalmist made a monumental proclamation. He said, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear; what can man do unto me?” Let’s see what he meant by that emphatic statement.
He states his confident association.
“The Lord is on my side.” Whether or not anyone else is with you, the Lord is with you! Whether anyone else agrees with you or not, the Lord is on your side. If you have been unfairly criticized, slandered, or hurt, the Lord is on your side. The justice system might change, but the Lord is on your side. People’s opinions of you might change, but the Lord is on your side. You might have to take a stand on matters of truth and people will be against you, but the Lord is on your side. We have a confident association.
He states his courageous attitude.
“I will not fear.” He is saying that we can stand up to our problem and our foes. We do not have to be afraid of the bad news. We do not have to allow the threats to intimidate us. We do not have to be afraid of the setback. When Goliath hollered at David, David was not afraid. The roars of the lions were deafening, but Daniel was not afraid. When the three friends of Daniel were cast into a fiery furnace, they had no fear because the Lord was with them. Peter was cast into a prison with guards camped outside his cell, but he was not afraid. We can have a courageous attitude.
He states his contented approach.
“What can man do unto me?” He saw the bigger picture. Take away my salvation? No way; the Lord is on my side! Take away my possessions? Go ahead; the Lord is on my side! Take away my job? Go ahead; the Lord is on my side! Take away my health? Go ahead; the Lord is on my side! Slander me? Go ahead; the Lord is on my side! What is the worst thing man can do unto me? It does not matter: the Lord is on my side!
Let’s never forget that one with the Lord makes the majority! Let’s never forget that “we are well able to overcome them.” Let’s never forget that God is greater! Let’s never forget that we are more than conquerors through Him that loves us.
Whatever it is that you are facing, the Lord is on your side! If you are in a pit, the Lord is on your side!
Have a victorious God morning!
