And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. ~Genesis 1:31
The Bible begins with an undisputed fact: "In the beginning God...." Everything that is points to Creator God: God Who is, God Who always will be. The Hebrew name for God is Elohim, which powerfully embodies the triune Godhead. It implies absoluteness, perfection, and completeness. He is God powerful, God personal, and God perpetual. Genesis 1:1 is the only explanation of creation factually, scientifically, and naturally.
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” God’s sovereignty is described as our Creator. God spoke and all things came into existence. “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth” (Psalm 33:6). Ten times, we read, “And God said....” His Word is powerful. God’s sovereignty is described as complete. “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:3). God’s sovereignty is described as in control. God needed no assistance in creation. He created in an orderly manner. God created in sequence. All of creation was done over six days. God’s sovereignty is described as creative. We see heaven, earth, light, darkness, day, night, evening, morning, firmament, water, land, grass, herb yielding seed, fruit trees, light for the day, light for the night, creatures of the seas, and creatures on land. Nothing in creation was made randomly, accidentally, or chaotically. Indeed, this is God only wise.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” God’s supreme creation is man. Man was made in the image of God. Man was made spirit, soul, and body. By having a soul, God made man immortal. Man was made without sin. Being in the image of God indicates the immortality of man. Up until man sinned, death was not possible. God made man in His image so that man could have union with God through personal fellowship. Man was given dominion over all the creatures, whether on land or of the sea. Man was made immortal, but he was also made with supreme intelligence. Man is the most intelligent of God’s creation. We see God in His supremacy.
“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” God provided for man’s food and nutritional needs by telling him that the herb bearing seed and fruit tree would be his meat. In the same fashion, God made this same provision for the beasts of the field, the fowls of the air, and everything that creeps on the earth. God gave man and the creatures to reproduce after their own kind. Through His creation process, God designed that everything would be sustained. It is a powerful reminder that God sustains and cares for us. No wonder David said, “...Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” Nothing God made was bad. He made everything very good. He has made all things beautiful in His time. God was satisfied on the sixth day that everything He had made was very good. God is satisfied with His work. The work of salvation through the death of Jesus Christ satisfied God’s just demands for sin. What God orders, executes, and has made is always very good. He is God only wise!
