The Real Deal

Today’s Verse:

But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation. ~Jeremiah 10:10

Several years ago while on a mission trip to a foreign country, I came across the fact that retail goods being sold in the open market were “knock-off” or counterfeit merchandise. The goods being sold were touted as name-brand items, but when you inspected it carefully, there were flaws and deficiencies. What was most incredible to me was the vast number of people who gullibly bought these goods, thinking that they were getting a bargain deal. I don’t want anything that is “knock-off” or counterfeit: I am somebody who wants the real deal. I am thankful the God of the Bible is the true God! He is not a knock-off: He is real!

We see God’s open VERACITY.

“But the LORD is the true God…” God is the Creator of heaven and earth. It is He Who made us, and not we ourselves. All of creation testifies to the existence of God. The Jews had lowered themselves to making idols of vanity. These idols were made of wood and stone. They represented the vain imaginations of man. These were gods that had eyes that could not see, ears that could not hear, hands that could not touch, and mouths that could not speak. In contrast to these idol gods, our God is true, real, and relational. He is Truth and cannot lie. He is the same and always unchanging. Our God is the real deal!

We see God’s ongoing VITALITY.

“…He is the living God…” God is living! Idol gods are inanimate and dead. They have no life. They can never come alive. However, our God is living. He is living in heaven, where the angels of heaven and the saints that have preceded us worship an adore Him. He is living in hearts of men who have called on the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. He is living in houses of God where the Bible is fervently being preached, congregations are fervently praying, and where the salvation of the lost is a high priority. Kings, rulers, and presidents will die: God is always living. He is the giver of life. He is the restorer of life. He ever liveth! Our God is the real deal!

We see God’s omnipotent VIGOR.

“Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might,” Jer. 10:6. Thou art great! David said, “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised.” He is greater than all of His creation. He is greater than earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, avalanches, and any other natural calamities. He is greater than diseases and cancers. He is greater than our unbelief. He is greater than our anxieties, worries, and problems. He is greater than the strongest military power. He is greater than a hydrogen bomb, nuclear warheads, or cluster bombs. God’s greatness cannot be contended with or matched. God’s greatness is an omnipotent vigor. Our God is real!

We see God’s overwhelming VASTNESS.

God is great in His name, and He is an everlasting King. His kingdom will never fail. His kingdom will always be undefeated. His kingdom is forever and forever. He is a King Who cannot become powerless, obsolete, or irrelevant. He is infinite, everlasting, unchanging, and all-encompassing. He is God of gods and Lord of lords. When we consider all of these things, He is worthy of our worship, adoration, and love. What an insult to worship diols of vanity, and substitute them for the real God!

Don’t allow the idols of materialism, education, prosperity, and popularity cloud your judgment into thinking you must worship these. Our God is the true and living God, and an everlasting King. Rejoice in the Lord this morning that He is the real deal.

Have a God-centric God Morning!
