But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. ~Proverbs 4:18
When traveling, it is always important to know that you are on the right path. We can easily find ourselves going in the wrong direction if we do not follow a map, make a wrong turn, or ignore the instructions. This morning, let us see the importance of being on the right path for our entire life.
The path of the just is reserved for all who profess the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and are living in obedience and submission to His Word. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Jesus is the way to salvation from sin. It is a faith path. "We walk by faith, not by sight." It is a narrow path which leads to life everlasting. It is not the popular path that people of the world want, but, rather, it is a prioritized path. “This is the way, walk ye in it.” It is the Bible path. "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." It is the path of righteousness. It is a path that is restricted to those who are saved and obey the Lord.
This path is like a shining light. The path is well-lit so that you can see your way. Jesus lights the way for us. He is the Light of the world. There is no darkness on the pathway that Jesus leads us. The darkness or uncertainties occur if we do not follow Him. “For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life” (Proverbs 6:23). God’s Word is the means by which our path is lit. It is the Word of God that sheds light on our difficulties, trials, and uncertainties. It is God’s promises that guide us into all truth. We must follow the Lord so that our path stays lit. "If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another."
The light on our path shines more and more. The longer we walk the right path and obey the Lord, the brighter the light that He gives us. First, this light shines correctly. It is all truth, and there is no error in it. Second, this light shines convincingly. One of the key words in the Bible that strengthens our assurance is know. “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”
It shineth more and more unto the perfect day. The perfect day is when we see Jesus at our homegoing. We will be changed into His image on that day. The perfect day is when we will arrive at our final destination: Heaven! It is the day when we will be judged for our rewards for faithful service. It is the day of eternal fellowship and rejoicing with Jesus. On that day, we will dwell for all eternity in the light of Jesus' presence. He is the light of all of Heaven. The path of the just is a pleasant path, a prioritized path, and a perfect path. Don’t try to make a path for your life when Jesus has already paved the way. Stay on this path, and look ahead to when you will arrive at the perfect day!
