…Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women…. ~Exodus 1:19
Has anyone ever told you that you are different? To be different can sometimes have the idea of oddity and strangeness. An example might be a person who is antisocial and displays behavior that is not considered normal. In other instances, to be different might imply a very good distinction. An example of this might be a teenager who does not fit the norm of a typical, rambunctious teen but instead is polite, helpful, and respectful.
The two Hebrew midwives in their convictions made a distinction between the Hebrews and Egyptians: the Hebrew women were not as the Egyptian women. As a thought for the day, this statement is a reminder that God’s people are different from the people of the world. Christians are different from non-Christians.
The Christian life begins when a person acknowledges that he is a sinner on the way to Hell and places his entire faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior. "For by grace are ye saved through faith...." "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved...." A non-Christian has his faith in religious works, self, or idolatrous images. Abel had faith in the shed blood of an innocent victim for his sins. This faith pointed to Christ, Who would shed His blood for every sinner. Cain placed his faith in his accomplishments and in what he could do. Without faith in Jesus Christ, every sinner is condemned to an eternity in Hell. Faith makes the difference.
When a person accepts Jesus Christ as Savior, he becomes a son of God! He is a member of the family of God through spiritual adoption. He is no longer a child of the devil; he is permanently a child of God! He is an heir of God and a joint-heir with Jesus Christ. One of the characteristics of being saved is a love for God’s people. A true believer loves other Christians. One of the true signs that you are saved is the desire to be at church and among God’s people. The family makes the difference.
God’s people are focused on walking in the Spirit and living a victorious Christian life. A Christian desires to put off the old man and to put on the new man. A Christian desires the sincere milk of the Word of God in his life. A Christian seeks first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. A Christian desires to be a witness of Christ’s death and resurrection to the unsaved. A Christian does not fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. The difference is the focus.
God’s people are Heaven-bound. They have an inheritance that is incorruptible and undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in Heaven for them. They have a predictable future: Heaven is not a "hope so" but a "know so!" They have a perpetual future. They will spend eternity in the presence of the Lord. It is a permanent future. Nothing will change what God has promised. Jesus said, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” The difference is the future.
God’s people are different from the people of this world. Are you showing the difference between a saved life and an unsaved life? We are different because Jesus lives inside of us!
