Thine Eyes Shall See

Today’s Verse:

Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off. ~Isaiah 33:17

As a child growing up, I remember looking into a kaleidoscope. A kaleidoscope is an optical instrument in which bits of glass, held loosely at the end of a rotating tube, are shown in continually changing symmetrical forms by reflection in two or more mirrors set at angles to each other. A kaleidoscope operates on the principle of multiple reflections, where several mirrors are placed at angles to one another. As you look into this device and rotate it, there are many wonderful objects, colors, and patterns that come together. From a visual standpoint, it presents an awesome array of beautiful patterns that capture your attention. This morning, we want to consider something visual that presents to us the glory of things to come.

Let us consider the setting.

We see a prophecy of God’s judgment against the nations who turn against Israel and Him. It is a sobering presentation of how the land will become like a wasteland and there will be much carnage due to the judging that will occur. It is a fearful presentation of how God will deal in righteousness against the rebellion and sin of men who shake their fists in His face and are defiant against His Word. No matter what glory any man thinks he has accomplished, God will remove all of that and leave things barren and fruitless.

Let us consider the sight.

It will be a time of judgment, but it is also a time of rejoicing. For God’s people, it is also a time when all wrong is made right and God will manifest His glory. The sight is one of hope. When things around us appear to be falling apart, fear and trepidation grip us. However, God gives us hope! He gives hope to those who have remained steadfast in their devotion. The sight is one of His Highness! “Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty.” We will see the Mighty King, the One Who is above all other kings and thrones. We will see Him in His beautiful robe of righteousness with His sword at His side. We will see Him in His beauty! The sight is one of Heaven. They shall behold the land that is very far off. The hymn writer wrote: “There’s a land that is fairer than day, and by faith we can see it afar, for the Father waits over the way to prepare us a dwelling place there.” That’s Heaven! Abraham looked for a city whose Builder and Maker is God. That’s Heaven! We will see the land that is very far off.

Let us consider the safety.

“For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.” As God is working righteousness and judgment against those who have defied and rejected Him, God’s people find safety and peace. We have complete assurance of our eternal security. Those who have placed their faith and trust in Jesus can never lose their salvation. Those who keep their mind upon the Lord are kept in perfect peace. Where the strength of the mighty will fail, the feebleness of God’s people is made strong. We are safe in God’s keeping. We are safe in the arms of Jesus.

Yes, a day is coming when we will see the King in His beauty and a land that is very far off. Our vision in this life can become blurry due to difficulties, inequities, and suffering. However, keep looking upwards and remember that “thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty.”

Have an inspired God Morning!
