Walk Worthy

Today’s Verse:

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; ~Colossians 1:10

I like to observe military parades and processionals, especially when a large number of the troops march together. Each branch of the military has a certain way or style that they want each soldier to walk and march. It has a dignity and a respect to it. It identifies them by their country and military branch. As these troops prepare for their walk, it is critically important that each soldier walks the same way. When they walk and march the same way, they have a walk that is worthy. Paul exhorts us to have a walk that is worthy of the Lord in order for us to have a life of spiritual success.

We see the prayer.

“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” In order to have a walk worthy of the Lord, we must pray for certain things to happen in our life. First, we must pray for comprehension. We need God’s enlightenment from His Word to know and do His will. Jesus taught us to pray, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” A basic request that we must make is, “Lead me to do Thy will.” The more we read the Word of God, the more we will grow in knowledge as to what we are supposed to do. Second, we must pray for compliance, or an obedient and submissive attitude. As we go to God in prayer, He breaks down our stubborn will so that we have a submissive will instead.

We see the practices.

Walking worthy of the Lord covers the duties and practices of the Christian life. It is our order of conduct. “Every good work” means the exercise of faith. The exercise of faith entails praying for God to do the impossible for us. It means that we should be actively serving in our local church. We should love our church to where we look for ways to be involved in everything that we can. I am thankful for some of my church members who want to participate in everything that they can. It means that we should be actively witnessing and winning souls. This past week, our church sponsored a “Kids Camp” outreach to children of elementary-school age. In addition to many getting saved, we had a large number of helpers: that was a blessing! It also means that we should be increasingly more competent in God’s power and how He blesses. All good works are works that glorify God and are a blessing to other people.

We see the product.

A walk worthy of God is “being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.” This means that we see positive results. We see the fruit of the Spirit being exercised. We see our spiritual gifts bringing the best out of other people. We inspire others to serve God and be a good witness. We see people come to Christ. We see hurting people helped and comforted by our good deeds. We see answers to prayer. A walk worthy of God has His approval and blessing on it. The hand of the Lord is on what we do. A walk worthy of God means that we are walking in the right direction. It indicates that God is pleased with our motive and attitude. It represents that we are doing the will of God from the heart and are well pleasing to Him.

This morning, focus on a walk that is worthy of the Lord. Don’t live out of spite towards someone else. Do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, and do it with the idea that God must approve it.

Have an acceptable God Morning!
