Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. ~Proverbs 8:4
A father who is deeply burdened for the spiritual well-being his sons desires that his sons make the right choices in life. These right choices will include receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, dedicating his life to the Lord, choosing the right woman to be his wife, choosing the right career, and accepting the call of wisdom. When we typically think of a calling, our thoughts go to the idea of a calling to serve the Lord full-time in ministry. However, one of the first callings in a man’s life is the call to accepting wisdom. This morning, wisdom is crying out to every reader.
Wisdom traces its beginning back to God. Wisdom was established at the very foundation of creation. “The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens” (Proverbs 3:19). When we consider the grandeur and splendor of all of creation, the wisdom of God is intricately embedded within. God is a God of order. There is no chaos with God. The evolution theory of mass occurring as a result of a cosmic explosion is nothing but a chaotic attempt to describe how things which are in existence do appear. Wisdom will continue because God is everlasting. It is not transitory or vanishing. Wisdom calls out because of its permanence.
The cry of wisdom is strong and persuasive. Wisdom is beckoning from the top of the mountain; it is crying out at the entry gate of the city; it is crying out at the entrance of every door. No man is excused from hearing the voice of wisdom. It is an audible cry that can be clearly heard. Its words are understandable. "They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge." Its words are in righteousness. Its words are plain and simple to understand. Its words are words of truth. It is a persuasive call. It is repeated. It is resonating. “Hear!” it cries out!
Wisdom is better than all precious metals. Every possessor of wisdom is in a better position in every way by receiving wisdom for his life. Its value is highly appreciable. It cannot devaluate. It is incomparable in its value and endurance. The possessor of wisdom attains to the place of kings and royal dignitaries. By wisdom, kings reign, and princes decree justice. By wisdom, princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth. "Blessed are they that keep my ways" (Proverbs 8:32).
Wisdom must be received like a man who watches daily at its gates and waits at the posts of the doors. Wisdom always leads its possessors down the path that is the will of God and is spiritually right. It never leads astray. "I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the path of judgment." Then, wisdom functions within the fear of the Lord. It hates evil: "pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the forward mouth, do I hate." The more a man is filled with wisdom, the more he understands that wise living parts ways with pride, evil, and wicked speech.
To scorn and reject wisdom is a sin! The despising of wisdom is saying that you love death over life. In effect, the rejection of wisdom is the rejection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.
Respond to the call of wisdom today! Sit daily at its gates and doorways. You can never have too much of wisdom. Consider the multiplicity of benefits that come with wisdom. Say "yes" to wisdom this morning!
