Today’s Verse:
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. ~Proverbs 30:5
Pure gold is gold that has gone through the fire and all the impurities have been taken out. It is gold that can be trusted and worth its weight. Hence, we use the phrase, “It’s worth its weight in gold.” God’s Word has many different pictures describing what it is. It is precious seed sown into hearts. It is a mirror that shows us what we are. It is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path. It is a sharp, two-edged sword that cuts into our souls. It is a fire that burns within us, and it is a rock that shatters our hardness. It is desired more than gold. It is worth its weight in gold!
We see its Author.
It’s the Word of GOD. It bears complete resemblance to God. It is all truth. It is absolute. Just as God cannot lie, the Word of God cannot lie. Just as God is eternal, His Word is eternal. “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” God said that His Word shall never pass away. We have an Author Who loves us through His Word. We have an Author Who comforts and charges us through His Word. It is a more sure Word. It is a God-breathed Word. It is holy Scripture. It is God’s Word!
We see that it’s authentic.
“Every word of God is pure.” It is unadulterated. It is holy. It is clean, enduring forever. “The words of the LORD are pure words.” The psalmist said, “Thy word is very pure.” Purity represents the fact that there is nothing defiling about it. It is not tainted in any way. It is pure in its message and doctrine. It is purifying in the one who reads it.
We see its armament.
“He is a shield.” God’s Word is protective armor for us. We make our refuge in the Word of God. It is a buckler that we can safely hide behind. It is a shield that is fitted for us. It is a shield of faith that quenches the fiery darts of the evil one. It is a shield that never wears out. It shelters us in the storm. It shields us from the heat. It is a shield that cannot be broken. It is a shield that bears His name and announces that we are under His cover.
We see its authority.
“He is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” God’s Word is faithful and reliable. You can trust God’s Word for every area of life. You can trust in it for your direction. You can trust in it for your relationships. You can trust in it for your comfort. You can trust in it for your calling. You can trust God’s Word for your growth and spiritual life. Jesus said, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you..” Trust God’s Word in up times and down times. Trust God’s Word when you are discouraged, lonely, or forsaken. You can trust God’s precepts, promises, and prophecies.
God’s Word is worth its weight in gold! Every Word of God is pure, reliable, and completely trustworthy.
Have a Word-filled God Morning!
